Working in collaboration with Facebook and Sport England, the English Table Tennis Association (ETTA) were one of six sports tasked with producing a sports hub in order to grow participants through social media.
The other 5 sports used traditional game scenarios with social media leagues. As part of a three person communication team running the project for the ETTA, we embraced the social aspect, placing tables in student union bars and encouraging informal games and party nights with dj’s and a few drinks.
We were able to get individuals that ordinarily wouldn’t play, to interact with the Facebook Sports Hub and get involved, due to the informal and social nature of the project, as apposed to the other sports, who engaged existing players through a new medium.
Table tennis tables were branded and donated to universities across England, in conjunction with sporting and social media support, to help create a community around the platform.
The tables and platform were launched at a promotional event at Kings College London University, supported by Fred Perry.
As well as event management, I was involved in the project management and production of promotional literature, videos and social media activities. A viral video was also produced in collaboration with Karmarama.
